CAPCOM went all out with Bionic Commando: ReArmed and gave classic 8bit gameplay a complete visual overhaul.  The aesthetics blended unbelievably well with the gameplay.  The audio in no way was given a ticket to wait in line either.  Every pixel and sound byte were brought back from their respective cryogenic chambers.  It was undeniably well executed and I'm sure CAPCOM, or at least Ben Judd, knows this.  So when I heard awhile ago that Mega Man 9 was coming to Wii Ware, Nintendo's Version of XBLA, PSN, as a direct sequel to Mega Man 8 from back in 1997, I wasn't too surprised by their decision to stick with all it's 8bit glory.  After all, most of what you find on Nintendo's Virtual Console are Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Turbo Grafx 16, NES, SNES, well you get the idea.  So Wii Ware or Virtual Console makes sense.   Then rumor broke out during this years Game Developers Conference that Mega Man 9 was to appear on XBLA and PSN, which was later confirmed to be true, although release dates were never confirmed.

Well guess what's happening this week.  Yep, you guessed it Mega Man 9 will be coming to a hardcore gamers console near you.  I say hardcore gamer because let's face it only the hardcore will play this to the end and with achievements like this

  • Jitterbug -- Clear the game in 60 minutes or less (20 Achievement points)
  • Invincible -- Clear the game without dying (30 points)
  • Almost Invincible -- Clear the game without continuing (20 points)
  • No Coffee Break Clear the game without using any Energy or Mystery Tanks (10 points)
  • Peacekeeper -- Clear the game by defeating the fewest number of enemies possible (20 points)
  • Conservationist -- Clear the game by using the least amount of Weapon Energy possible (20 points)
  • Gamer's Day -- Clear the game five times in one day (20 points)
  • Whomp Wily! -- Clear the game once (5 points)
  • Destroyer -- Defeat your 1000th enemy (20 points)
  • World Warrior -- Defeat every type of enemy (5 points)
  • Trusty Sidearm -- Defeat the eight Bosses with the Mega Buster (20 points)
  • Blue Bomber -- Defeat a Boss without getting damaged (10 points)

Yeah, I'm sorry Henry, but even Batman gets kicked in the nuts a couple of times so Invincible, yeah I think not.

Regardless, I will be picking this up, how could you not?  I'll be doin so on my PS3 tho since the simple thought of them makes my hands tremble and my brain turn to vomit.  Trophies, Sony's answer to Microsoft's achievements, are not getting much attention at the moment and although I know there there the sound the Xbox 360 makes when you've acquired one is equivalent to your first hit of meth, and any second spent not hearing one is like getting bum-raped by an orangutan.  You won't know until you try it.  That's what they always say.

Here are the dates so get to downloading when it's out.  Wii Ware, in case anyone cares, is this Monday, September 22nd.  PSN is given the honors next with a release date of the usual PSN Thursday Update, September 25th.  XBLA version will be released on October 1st.  I'll be doin the review on this one but knowing my history with Mega Man games, don't expect it too soon.
